Rua da Judiaria

Near the S. Pedro’s tower, the Judiaria street, founded under Pedro Ist and completed by kind Fernando. Located at the heart of Alfama, between the large king Fernando’s wall and the S. Rafael square, it also had a no longer existing synagogue built between 1373 and 1374.

Futuro Museu Judaico de Lisboa

The aspiration to a Jewish museum was a long-cherished project, and the first protocol was signed in 2009, between the Lisbon Jewish community, Lisbon municipality and Lisbon’s Tourism. This Protocol was the starting point for this idea.  In the very heart of Alfama where stood the XIIth century synagogue, the architectural project signed by Graça Bachman, collections from the Lisbon Jewish community, and with Lisbon’s Tourism management, the Lisbon Jewish Museum is due to open to the public in 2020/2021 thus becoming another cultural beam enriching our history and giving a new light to the city.
